The Epic Scroll of China’s Grand Canal is an artistic masterpiece that transcends time and space. It narrates the story of the Grand Canal, which has been flowing for thousands of years, with a romantic style. The scroll is 135 meters long and 3 meters high, with the first volume measuring 43 meters and the second volume 64 meters. The calligraphy inscription is 28 meters long. The main creative group consists of calligraphers and painters from Jiangsu Province, with contributions from 15 calligraphers and painters from 8 provinces (municipalities) along the Grand Canal. The scroll took one and a half years and several revisions to complete. The scroll uses a new perspective to harmoniously blend poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal in multiple dimensions such as time, space, humanity, and nature. It is divided into two sections: “Great Feats of Ancient China” and “Glorious Chapter of the New Era.” The scroll outlines the 2,500-year history of the building and development of the Grand Canal, presenting the natural scenery and prosperous scenes of the 4 seasons along the canal.

To balance “the best display effect of the over 100-meter long scroll in a limited space” with “technical support for subsequent sustainable use”, the scroll is thoughtfully arranged in segments, accompanied by images, with expanded pictures and smooth traffic flow. This display records and showcases the epic scroll and its creation process, presenting the grandeur of the canal’s epic history. Meanwhile, it allows the audience, as participants and witnesses to history, to truly immerse themselves in the spirit and legacy of the millennia-old canal.

The simple, intuitive exhibition layout ensures clear traffic flow. The gallery is surrounded by fixed continuous display cases, while the center of the gallery features movable, detachable, and freely combinable display cases to accommodate future artworks of varying sizes.
