As a major waterway connecting the five major river systems—the Haihe, Yellow, Huaihe, Yangtze, and Qiantang Rivers, the Grand Canal of China has created a vibrant ecological corridor with its abundant water resources. The Grand Canal basin straddles the subtropical and temperate monsoon climate zones. Thanks to the mild temperatures in these regions, butterflies, having rested comfortably through the winter, spread their delicate wings each spring and summer, generously showcasing their graceful dance.
In this exhibition, the CGCM showcases butterfly specimens from four major superfamilies (Hesperoidea, Papilionoidea, Lycaenidae, and Nymphalidae) in its collection, striving to present the small but colorful world of butterflies and highlight the lively beauty of their ecosystems.
