As the city where the construction of the Grand Canal began, Yangzhou serves as the historical and cultural source of the ancient canal. At the convergence of the Yangtze River and the Grand Canal, the ancient city of Yangzhou boasts both stunning ecological landscapes and a rich cultural heritage. It embodies the romance and wisdom of the ancients while showcasing the creativity and achievements of modern people. The long and winding rivers carry not only knowledge but also a shared desire to create a better life.

A large scroll of Yangtze Spring Scenery exhibited this time offers a panoramic view of the magnificent scenery of the great Yangtze River. This 125-meter-long and 1.2-meter-high painting took one year to complete. Wu Weishan wrote the foreword in calligraphy, Yang Zhichun created the postscript, Sun Xiaoyun inscribed the title of the scroll and wrote the postscript in calligraphy, Zhao Yanguo made the seal, and Yuwen Jialin wrote the epilogue. In the painting, artists portrayed the “tremendous changes” that have taken place along the Yangtze River. They captured the grandeur of snow-capped mountains, vast ravines shrouded in clouds and mist, and towering peaks. The artwork also features the serene beauty of high gorges and calm lakes, the confluence of rivers, and the smooth flow of waterways into the sea. Ecological scenes include clear waters, blue skies, birds soaring above wetlands, and fish leaping along green banks. The painting is rich with colorful depictions of bridges over vast waters, boats with sails, ancient buildings. Additionally, it conveys the modern vibrancy of thriving cities, picturesque villages, and a prosperous lifestyle. Altogether, these elements create a vivid and enchanting picture of spring along the Yangtze River.

The Yangtze Spring Scenery uses traditional Chinese painting techniques to depict the rejuvenated Yangtze River, where clouds and water seamlessly merge. This beautiful artwork reflects contemporary characteristics, captivating the audience with its aesthetics and evoking deep emotions and memories of the mother river. It inspires respect and longing for the rich Yangtze River civilization.
