The Grand Canal of China spans eight provinces and cities, connecting the five major water systems of the Haihe River, Yellow River, Huaihe River, Yangtze River, and Qiantang River. It traverses the North China Plain and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River Plain, passing through the northern warm temperate zone, southern warm temperate zone, northern subtropical zone, and central subtropical zone. This diverse natural ecology supports a rich variety of biological species.

The Wetland Wonders exhibition is primarily aimed at children and is highly interactive. It showcases two thousand years of ecological conservation and improvement of the canal through engaging activities, allowing participants to explore the mysteries of canal wetlands. In “The Far-Reaching Canal and Misty Wetlands” section, there are displays of the natural landscapes, ecological environment, wetland overview, and various species of flora and fauna in the regions through which the canal flows. This section is vibrant and colorful.

The “Fish’s Paradise, Birds’ Heaven” section is located in the center of the gallery. Through restored wetland scenes, it vividly displays wetland ecology, including still water animal and plant communities, plankton communities, benthic communities, and submerged plant communities. This is supplemented by an introduction to the supply, regulation, support, and cultural service functions of wetlands.

The exhibition has achieved a multi-dimensional enhancement in museum displays, evolving from static to dynamic, from singular to diverse, from passive viewing to active participation, from mere knowledge to deeper insight, and from technology to art. The space is dominated by the green of nature, which highlights the theme and integrates various ecological elements of the canal. This intuitively presents the harmonious and thriving ecological appearance of the canal wetlands.
