In Tianshui, a city along the Silk Road, Maiji Mountain goes all the way up into the clouds. After heavy rains, mist ascends from the mountain and drifts through the lush forest, transforming the place into a fairyland. More than 200 caves excavated since the Sixteen Kingdoms (304–439 AD) are scattered across the cliffs of the mountain. Over the past two years, the China Grand Canal Museum’s “Cultural Heritage” series exhibitions have showcased Yongle Palace—famed for its legendary relocation—as well as the enduring Potala Palace, which has stood for over a millennium thanks to generations of continuous upkeep. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Silk Road’s successful designation as a World Heritage Site, we invite you to explore the “Maiji Wonder” along the Silk Road.
