The flowing Great Canal has not only nurtured the people living on its banks, but also given rise to a unique art form: New Year prints. From the bold and concise woodblock prints of Zhuxian Town in Kaifeng, Henan Province, to the delicate elegance of those from Taohuawu in Suzhou; from the blend of printing and painting in Yangliuqing prints from Tianjin to the rustic charm of Yangjiabu prints from Shandong Province, these masterpieces from the main woodblock print regions along the Grand Canal are brought together to showcase the fusion and clash of northern and southern Chinese styles.
