On July 11, 2025, Xixia Imperial Tombs were inscribed on the World Heritage List, becoming China’s 60th World Heritage site. Located on the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains, this site complex, with its 9 imperial mausoleums, 271 subordinate tombs, 5.03 hectares of ancient architectural foundations at the northern end, and 32 sites of ancient flood-control works, bears witness to the diverse yet integrated evolution of Chinese civilization.
To mark this occasion, the China Grand Canal Museum, in collaboration with the Yinchuan Xixia Imperial Tombs Management Office and the Xixia Imperial Tombs Museum, presents the fifth exhibition in its “Cultural Heritage” series, titled “Xixia Imperial Tombs: A World Cultural Heritage Beneath the Helan Foothills”. This exhibition, featuring a total of 272 pieces or sets of artifacts, aims to explore the architectural ingenuity of the Xixia Imperial Tombs and, more importantly, to showcase the efforts made over half a century to preserve this cultural treasure.
