The Danube River banks of Budapest along with Buda Castle and Andrassy Avenue were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987 and 2002. It’s one of the most outstanding urban landscapes in the world and a model of European urban development. Throughout its long history, the city has endured cycles of destruction and renewal, writing a magnificent chapter of cultural continuity through its legacy. Remnants of the Roman Empire, elements from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, and the Art Nouveau movement have all shaped the city’s distinctive appearance.
